Four Freedoms Awards

We must continue to fight for necessary human freedoms. That is why the Four Freedoms Awards are presented every year. Individuals or organizations committed to the Four Freedoms receive the award. Franklin D. Roosevelt named these Four Freedoms in his speech to the United States Congress on January 6, 1941. The presentation of the Four Freedoms Awards is a tradition started by the Franklin and Elanor Roosevelt Institute in New York in 1950. Roosevelt's ancestors came from Oud-Vossemeer in Zeeland. Since 1982, the award ceremony has therefore taken place internationally in collaboration with the Roosevelt Foundation in Zeeland. The Four Freedoms Awards are presented in even years in Middelburg, and in New York in odd years.
