• The Freedom of Speech award was presented to Bronislaw Geremek.
• The Freedom of Worship award went to Dame Cicely Saunders.
• The Freedom from Want award was received by Monkombu S. Swaminathan.
• The Freedom from Fear award went to Louise Arbor.
