BAM - The Black Archives Meet Up
On Saturday, October 14, 2023, The Black Archives Amsterdam organizes a lecture and a pop-up exhibition about our shared slavery and colonial past in the ZB, Kousteensedijk 7 in Middelburg. The program includes theater, music and dialogue with Zeeland makers and the audience.
Together we get into the role of Zeeland in the Transatlantic slave trade, using unique documents from The Black Archives and Ferdinand Ralf (co-founder of the Slavery Monument in Middelburg). Special attention is paid to black authors, researchers and scientists.
The program includes performances by Zeeland makers, young people and musicians. We look for new answers. What can healing and recovery look like in the context of the (Zeeland) history of slavery? How can we meet each other and what do we need for that? What role can art and culture play in raising awareness of the shared history of slavery and its impact today?
Speakers
- Marcos Valster da Costa Ferreira, actor and theatermaker. He presents parts from his new performance VOETSTUK and the youth performance CONGO SQUARE.
