Congo Square
Congo Square is a project of the Youth Theater School Zeeland, focusing on 150 years of the abolition of slavery in collaboration with the ZB, the Kunstbende, the ADB, Keti Koti and Pop aan Zee. A group of diverse young people from Zeeland talk about how slavery and its abolition still have an effect on their personal lives. They show these personal stories in the form of theatre, dance, music and/or spoken word – poetry.
The initiative of this project comes from actor and theatermaker Marcos Valster Da Costa Ferreira. He has previously played a theater solo on this theme, with which he also toured the schools of Zeeland. He is currently playing in ''KOSMOS'', a co-production of Het Laagland and Toneelgroep Maastricht. Marcos likes to make theater for young people and/or with young people. Social themes are central to these performances and he prefers to work from personal stories of young people and of himself. Together with choreographer Jewel Jammah Riemens and a number of young performers, he creates this special performance.
