Interactive livestream 'Commemorative year of the past of slavery, what now?'

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 8:00 PM, the ZB, Keti Koti Zeeland and Four Freedoms Through The Year will organize the interactive livestream 'Commemorative Year of Slavery Past, and Now?'. An online program for citizens, policymakers, social and cultural organizations about the current social impact of the transatlantic slavery past. What is going on in Zeeland, which interventions are successful and how can we learn from each other?

A program for everyone who wants to know and do more 

What can we learn from the past commemoration year? How do we increase knowledge and awareness about this shared past? How do we continue to talk to each other, counter polarization and aim for equality and solidarity? During the livestream, Hannie Kool-Blokland, director of the Zeeuws Archives and former member of the Advisory Board Dialogue Group on the History of Slavery, discusses lessons from social reform. Angélique Duijndam, chairman of Keti Koti Zeeland, shares her experiences from Discrimination.nl. 

Dienke Hondius, quartermaster for the national Knowledge Center on the History of Slavery, discusses current developments regarding the possible arrival of a national knowledge center on the history of slavery in Zeeland. In addition, attention is paid to local initiatives. Cultural entrepreneur Ricardo Burgzorg presents the artistic heritage project 'Threads of our Dutch Slavery History'. Dineke Mersie, member of the Keti Koti Tafel Community Zeeland, talks about the foundation's efforts to initiate dialogue about the legacy of slavery and colonial history. Theater maker Marcos Valster Da Costa Ferreira opens the program
