Keti Koti dialogue table
During the Liberation Festival Zeeland we would like to invite you to the Keti Koti dialogue table!
Does the peace signed in 1945 mean equal freedom for everyone? On May 5th we will discuss this with each other during the Keti Koti dialogue table. This dialogue table is a meeting - between white and black Zeeuwen (and all colors in between) - in which the consequences of the common slavery past are discussed in the present.
The dialogue table takes place in the context of the national Slavery Past Commemoration Year. In 2023, the Netherlands will commemorate and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the former Dutch colonies of Surinam and the Netherlands Antilles. In Zeeland, attention has been paid to the transatlantic slavery past as an essential part of Zeeland's history for many years.
But what does this mean for our society today? We will start this conversation on May 5th. The Keti Koti dialogue table is aimed at sharing personal experiences, memories and feelings with each other. We use a communal meal that reminds us of the slavery past.
Due to the limited number of places and the composition of dialogue pairs, registration is mandatory. For the same reason, we would also like to know whether or not you have a migration background. Please register before April 28, 2023. There is no cost to participate, but a voluntary contribution is welcome.

The dialogue table on May 5 is an initiative of Keti Koti Table Community Zeeland and is made possible in part by the Keti Koti Zeeland Foundation, ZB Library of Zeeland, Province of Zeeland / Four Freedoms Door Het Jaar Heen and Cultuurwerf/Bevrijdingsfestival Zeeland.
