Keti Koti dialoogtafel

On June 29, the Keti Koti dialogue table will take place in the Zeeuws Archief in Middelburg. Keti Koti means 'break the chains' and this dialogue table is part of the national commemoration of the abolition of Dutch slavery.

Participation is € 5 per person. Due to the limited number of places and the composition of dialogue pairs, registration is mandatory. For the same reason, we would also like to know whether or not you have a migration background.

This year we commemorate and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the former Dutch colonies of Surinam and the Netherlands Antilles. In Zeeland, attention has been paid to the transatlantic slavery past as an essential part of Zeeland's history for many years.

True to tradition, the Zeeland Keti Koti Table Community once again organizes a joint meal and dialogue, called the Keti Koti dialogue table. An encounter between white and black Zeeuwen (and all colors in between), reflecting on the consequences of the shared slavery past in the present. A past that is tangibly present in the Zeeuws Archief. The meal and rituals are connected to life on the plantations. The dialogue is aimed at sharing personal experiences, memories and feelings in the present and has the theme: 'Remembering and healing'.

The dialogue table on June 29 is an initiative of Keti Koti Table Community Zeeland and is made possible by the Province of Zeeland / Four Freedoms Door Het Jaar Heen, Keti Koti Zeeland, ZB Bibliotheek van Zeeland and Europe Direct.
