SDG Purpose College: only well-meaning people
During the SDG Purpose College: 'Only well-meaning people', theater maker Crystall Hassell investigates how well-intentioned people, unintentionally and sometimes unnoticed, completely miss the point.
A theater performance, lecture and dialogue in one about prejudice, discrimination and our contribution to an inclusive society. The lecture on Thursday 17 November starts at 3.30 pm and is open to students, staff and other interested parties.
About the SDG Purpose College
Crystall Hassell's SDG Purpose College 'Only well-meaning people' is a special production in the context of Black Achievement Month and the Zeeland Inclusion Week. The setting is simple, theater maker Crystal Hassell is on stage with her story. She transforms through facial expressions, physicality and intonation and plays various characters she encountered in her life. Crystal tells about herself, about her origin and especially about the reactions that this causes around her. The monologue is sharp, humorous and sometimes poignant. In painful, absurd but realistic situations we see how 'subtle' and far-reaching everyday racism can be.
Have a conversation
An important part of this Purpose College is the conversation between the theater maker and the audience afterwards. Hassell challenges the public to reflect on their own behaviour. This enables them to think and look more broadly. Afterwards, you can discuss further while enjoying a drink.
