In 1982, Dr Willem A. Visser 't Hooft received the award for Freedom of Worship. He received the award for his outstanding contributions to the ecumenical movement and the definition of universal moral values.

Willem Adolf Visser 't Hooft was born in 1900 in Haarlem. He was secretary-general of several Christian youth organisations. As the first secretary-general of the World Council of Churches, Visser 't Hooft linked ecumenical church communities with many churches from developing countries and communist Eastern Europe. He died on July 4, 1985.
