Harold Macmillan received the International Four Freedoms Award in 1982. He received this award for his role as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the victory over tyranny in World War II. Macmillan also received the award for his courageous recognition of change in the former colonies, and his commitment to stopping the nuclear arms race.

Maurice Harold Macmillan was born Earl of Stockton in the UK in 1894. For almost forty years, Macmillan held important parliamentary positions in the Cabinet Office. He was also party leader of the Conservative Party. On December 29, 1986, Macmillan died.
